Problems and Adaptation of Migrant Families

Problems and Adaptation of Migrant Families

Factors Affecting Migration

Migration is generally the phenomenon of individuals changing their place of residence to better adapt to new conditions, or due to natural, economic, or political reasons.

Difficulties Faced by Migrant Families

The primary factor influencing migration is families moving to more suitable places to earn a living, especially finding employment and settling in the destination region. While some migrants succeed in adapting, it is known that some families struggle with adaptation, leading to a range of problems.

Adaptation of Families Arriving Through Migration

One of the biggest challenges faced by migrant families is undoubtedly the inability to adapt to the new environment and having to act contrary to their previous daily lives. Unplanned migration is a common phenomenon across all societies, bringing about psychological and social setbacks. To provide a qualitative research example: it is known that families who migrated from Crimea in 1771 due to various political disagreements settled in Turkey and went through a period that could be described as social collapse. The responsibilities that people should undertake to facilitate the adaptation of families who have migrated or been forced to migrate due to various factors are as follows. The most fundamental of these responsibilities is that the arriving family is not excluded. To ensure family adaptation, external support should be sought, and their ties should not be severed.
